Weight Management

Medication Program

FDA-approved appetite suppressants Phentermine, Phendimetrazine and Tenuate have been used for over 35 years. They are very effective at curbing your appetite and controlling portion sizes. Appetite suppressants can also slightly increase the metabolic rate, thus aiding weight loss.
Each patient at Etcetera receives nutritional counseling, guidelines and a personal meal plan. A well-balanced, reduced-calorie diet based on the patient's individual caloric needs is recommended.
Etcetera Medical offers a FREE CONSULTATION for all our programs.
Medication Program

Is your weight affecting your life?
If you answered "yes,” the OPTIFAST Program provides a serious solution for weight loss. It combines comprehensive lifestyle education and medical monitoring with a high-quality meal replacement diet.
Do you seek a serious solution to enhance your health?
Excess weight can increase your risk of heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure. The primary goal of the OPTIFAST program is to help you improve your health through weight loss. As shown below, OPTIFAST participants have experienced significant improvements in blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol.
The OPTIFAST program is designed to help you achieve change that lasts. Clinical research shows that five years after completing the OPTIFAST program, the majority of participants keep enough weight off to improve their health long-term.

HCG Program

Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is a naturally occurring hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy. This hormone allows the body to mobilize fat and use it as energy, helping to protect and preserve our lean body mass – our muscle. HCG has been safely used to aid and accelerate weight loss for over 60 years. Along with our unique combination of a low-calorie diet and HCG, patients report having results in decreased hunger, fatigue and moodiness common to many other diets. The addition of HCG appears to promote the breakdown of fat in stubborn areas such as stomach, hips and thighs that have been out of reach for years. This fat breakdown can produce up to 1,500 calories per day so you can get through your day without feeling hungry or tired. On average, weight loss is 20 pounds per month.
HCG Program
Etcetera's HCG program consists of a low-calorie, high-protein, medically supervised diet and a daily shot of HCG. Our diets are formulated individually for each patient based on their health, BMI and BMR, ranging in calories from 500 to 1,000. Each patient receives a personalized and specific daily plan to follow. They are monitored and encouraged throughout their program to help ensure success in achieving their goal.

Diet Shot Program

The weight clinic is pleased to offer an injection that will help you keep your energy up and lose inches at the same time. Part of the increased energy comes from vitamin B12. It is important to get this particular vitamin from an injection because it is not absorbed well when taken orally, especially after you pass the age of 40. Vitamin B6 is also included in each injection.
The most interesting ingredient in these injections is adenosine, a substance that occurs naturally in your body. It is currently being used in the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. While treating people for these conditions, researchers discovered that there was a side effect of using the adenosine. The patients had a noticeable reduction in their waistlines and other areas. Further research led to the discovery that the adenosine actually has a cellular-level effect on the body, causing fat cells to release their stored fat to be burned as energy.
After having the injection, you should notice an increase in energy that day. However, it will be very subtle – not a burst of energy. You should notice that in the late afternoon and early evening, when you usually start feeling lethargic, you will instead find the stamina to keep going. You will feel more alert, more able to concentrate and generally just mentally sharper.
The adenosine should stay in your system for approximately two days. We have some patients who have felt their effects for as long as five days. We have seen the best results from people who receive two large or three small injections per week.
These injections WILL NOT curb your appetite and will not keep you awake. To put it in simple terms, they alter your metabolism rather than speed it up. But they do increase your energy and help you lose inches, and we all know that every little bit counts!

Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that occur together, increasing your risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. This condition can also make it difficult to lose weight.
Having metabolic syndrome means you have several disorders related to your metabolism at the same time. The most common are:
  • Obesity, particularly around your waist (having an "apple shape")
  • Elevated blood pressure
  • An elevated level of the blood fat called triglycerides and a low level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol – the "good" cholesterol
  • Resistance to insulin, a hormone that helps to regulate the amount of sugar in your body.
Having one component of metabolic syndrome means you're more likely to have others. The more components you have, the greater the risks to your health.
Etcetera Medical offers a free consultation and free self-test to help determine if you could have metabolic syndrome and how to overcome it.
Our Diet Shot can be combined and added to any of our programs.

Laser Treatments

IPL Photo Facial

Photorejuvenation process uses pulsed light to treat pigmented and vascular lesions for overall improvement of skin tone. Pigmented lesions include sunspots, age spots or liver spots. Actinic bronzing is overall browning of the skin. Vascular lesions include spider veins (tiny capillaries that appear near the surface of the face that may be red, blue or purple in color) and rosacea, inflammation and swelling of the face.
The photorejuvenation process is performed by Palomar pulsed light systems. Pulsed light systems are similar to lasers but with a larger beam for wider coverage and faster, more comfortable treatments. During photorejuvenation treatments, pulses of filtered light are directed onto the skin and absorbed by the melanin for pigmented lesions and by the blood for vascular lesions.
IPL Photo Facial
Photorejuvenation Pigmented Lesion Treatments
The photorejuvenation light pulse is directly absorbed by the pigment in the lesion. The light heats the pigment and breaks it up. The lesion darkens and crusts after treatment and is naturally shed from the skin after approximately 10 days.
Photorejuvenation Vascular Lesion Treatments
Photorejuvenation light pulses heat into the small capillaries that cause sunspots, age spots, rosacea and other vascular lesions. The heat shrinks these capillaries, which may redden or become gray after treatment. They then fade from view after approximately 10 days.
Multiple treatments are needed to achieve complete results; however, with each treatment, the results of IPL photo facials become more pronounced. Treatments spaced two to four weeks apart are normally required for optimal results.

IPL Laser Hair Removal

IPL laser hair removal is a very popular method of hair removal. IPL lasers use “intense pulsed light” to gently and safely remove hair on the face, legs, back and bikini/pubic areas. The pulses of light focus their heat on the hair follicles, destroying them without burning or damaging the skin. IPL laser hair removal is quick and veritably painless. Side effects are few, but may include redness or swelling of the treated areas; this should disappear rapidly.
Good candidates for IPL laser hair removal will have lighter skin and darker hair, since IPL targets pigment in the hair follicles. Many people have experienced permanent hair removal with this method. If hair does grow back, it is often spare and finer in texture.

Fractional Skin Resurfacing

Palomar Lux1540 Fractional Laser is a revolutionary approach to all laser resurfacing procedures. It treats lines, wrinkles, age spots, melasma and scarring (including acne). It is FDA approved to treat stretch marks. Lux1540 treatments can be applied to most body areas: face (including around lips and eyes), neck, arms, hands, stomach and buttocks.
Lux1540 works by delivering light in an array of narrow, focused “microbeams” to create columns of coagulation (heat) deep within the skin, leaving the epidermis intact. The heated tissue within these columns initiates a natural healing process that stimulates collagen remodeling to form new healthy tissue. This results in a fresher, more youthful skin tone and texture.
Fractional Skin Resurfacing
There are other brands of nonablative laser that send light pulses into the dermis while leaving the epidermis intact. The difference is in the depth of the beam and the quick healing. When the light pulses don’t penetrate far into the dermis, the change in skin tone and texture is less effective and permanent. The StarLux FLT offers superior results, speedy healing and little to no downtime.
StarLux FLT treatments are also easier than other technologies, which can involve long prep and clean-up time. Some devices even require that dye be applied to your skin, which is difficult to rinse off. StarLux doesn’t require dye or lengthy appointments.
By delivering light as individual pulses of microbeams, the Lux1540 protects the skin overheating that can result from many other resurfacing lasers. Lux1540 features built-in cooling, so you feel only minor discomfort during treatments. A topical anesthetic ointment is applied to allay the discomfort.
Side effects are minimal for most patients, typically involving redness, swelling or tightness. Swelling should subside within a day or so, and redness usually fades over several days. Patients can apply makeup immediately after treatment. Generally, you can receive a treatment and go back to your activities without any recovery time.
Most people notice a positive change in skin tone and texture within a few days. Skin gradually becomes softer, smoother and fresher. Fine lines will noticeably fade and uneven coloring improve.
Clinical studies suggest that three to five treatments spaced about three to six weeks apart produce a gradual remodeling of dermal matrix components. Once complete healing occurs, and “good” material that contains collagen and elastin replaces old epidermal and dermal tissue, the results are long-lasting.

Rejuvenating Treatments

BOTOX® Cosmetic provides a quick and effective remedy for the facial lines and wrinkles that age, stress, worry and environmental factors can produce, even on a younger person's face. A BOTOX® injection skin treatment smooths frown lines on the forehead, between the eyes and at the base of the nose. With BOTOX® Cosmetic, derived from botulinum toxin, "crow's-feet" wrinkles at the corners of the eyes fade or disappear for a more youthful and vital facial appearance.
What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injectable agent used to temporarily diminish or eliminate lines and wrinkles on the face by relaxing underlying facial muscles. It is derived from botulinum toxin type A, a bacterium-produced neuromuscular toxin that can be deadly in a pure state. BOTOX® Cosmetic contains a highly diluted form of the toxin and has been proven safe. For this reason, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved BOTOX® botulinum toxin treatment for alleviating eye-muscle disorders and smoothing frown lines. This exceptional treatment is often used in conjunction with facial plastic surgery procedures such as a face-lift or eyelid lift to maximize its cosmetic benefit.
BOTOX® Candidates
Ideal BOTOX® Cosmetic candidates are those who wish to see an improvement in their facial lines and wrinkles, but either do not wish to commit to a facial surgery, or simply cannot tolerate surgery. There are some minimal side effects that have been noted with BOTOX® treatment, but these usually go away very quickly. Pregnant women are advised to avoid treatment, as the effect on the fetus is not yet known, and patients with certain neurological disorders are not considered good candidates.
Risks & Benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic
The main potential benefit of BOTOX® injectable skin treatments is the chance to take years off your facial appearance by eliminating frown lines, crow's-feet and other minor facial wrinkles. There have been very few potential risks of BOTOX® that have come to light thus far, though pregnant women, patients suffering from neurological disorders and people taking certain medications and antibiotics are not considered good candidates for the procedure.
Preparing for BOTOX® Treatment
There is little involved in preparing for a BOTOX® treatment, other than being upfront and honest with your physician when you initially discuss the treatment. Sometimes referred to as a "lunchtime procedure" because of the short amount of time needed for the injections, BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments require very little preparation or recovery time.
What to Expect During BOTOX® Treatment
After your physician discusses with you which of your facial muscles will need injection, your BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment will consist of your physician injecting very small amounts into the areas to be treated. BOTOX® injectable skin treatments are very quick, and are often referred to as a "lunchtime" procedure as the entire treatment takes approximately an hour to complete.
Recovery and Results
Recovery following BOTOX® treatment is usually very brief, and you will be able to resume most normal activities immediately. It is recommended that you do not lie down for several hours after the procedure, and that you refrain from massaging the treated area or participating in particularly strenuous activities for 24 hours. The BOTOX® Cosmetic results usually last between three to six months, though results will vary based on the patient and the area injected.

JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC & Ultra Plus XC

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM® injectable gel offer a safe and effective nonsurgical option for smoothing facial wrinkles and folds. In fact, they are the fastest-growing nonsurgical aesthetic procedure in the United States according to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. But all dermal fillers are not the same!
Choosing JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel Makes a Difference
JUVÉDERM® is the only hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA approved to last up to one year. Our unique manufacturing process provides a high concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid for long-lasting results. It also creates a smooth-consistency gel that flows easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel – so everyone will notice (but no one will know)! Only JUVÉDERM® is so smooth – other hyaluronic acid fillers currently on the market are made of granular-consistency gels.
  • A "next-generation" filler: JUVÉDERM® is a nonanimal dermal filler that is made from hyaluronic acid – a naturally occurring substance that plays a vital role in hydrating your skin and replenishing its natural volume. No allergy skin tests are needed prior to receiving treatment.
  • Proven safety and effectiveness: JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler proven safe and effective in persons of color.
  • Quick and easy procedure: JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is a nonsurgical physician-administered treatment that requires no allergy skin test and minimal recovery or downtime.
  • Personalized treatment: JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is available in two formulations, including JUVÉDERM® Ultra for versatility in contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles and folds. Both formulas come in XC (with lidocaine) for comfort.

Aging tends to make our lips more vulnerable and susceptible to the elements. Sun damage and the loss of the naturally occurring hyaluronic acid makes the lips look thin and less defined, and fine lines form. Because the lips are one of the most fragile portions of the face, the skincare pioneers at JUVÉDERM® have developed an HA-centered injectable filler specifically for the lips, VOLBELLA®.
VOLBELLA® is the newest dermal filler from the JUVÉDERM® family of products, uniquely designed for the lips and perioral area. Composed of hyaluronic acid (HA), VOLBELLA® immediately plumps the lips. Right away, patients can see better definition and fuller, more contoured lips.
VOLBELLA® is specifically designed to treat lips and the areas around the lips.
VOLBELLA® can help to:
  • Define the natural contour by accentuating the vermillion border (outline of the lips)
  • Smooth the fine, vertical lines appearing around the lips (also known as smoker’s lines)
  • Enhance the cupid’s bow (the dip in the middle of the upper lip), leading to a pouty/sexy appearance
  • Treat oral commissures (where the corners of the mouth turn down)
  • Treat marionette lines, which appear from the corners of the mouth and course down to the chin

JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA® is the newest HA (hyaluronic acid) soft-tissue filler to gain FDA approval. It has been available in Europe since 2005 and is used in 72 countries worldwide. JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA® is the newest filler in the family of JUVÉDERM® products and is formulated with lidocaine for added comfort during treatment. VOLUMA® is the first and only FDA-approved filler to instantly add volume to the cheek area. It gives you a subtle lift, helping to restore contour and a more youthful profile.
The loss of midface volume is one of the causes of facial aging. This occurs in varying degrees of severity and can lead to significant changes in the facial appearance. One of the most noticeable changes is the loss of cheekbone definition. Historically, this was addressed with surgery to tighten the overlying skin and lift the deeper soft tissues. More recently, volumizing fillers have been used to provide a similar lift without surgery. The goal is to restore volume in the midface to create a natural, youthful face.
JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA® is the first filler formulated with lidocaine that is FDA approved to restore age-related volume changes in the cheeks. Unlike other fillers commonly used to treat the midface, VOLUMA® is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler. HA fillers are made from long chains of sugars that occur naturally in the skin. JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA® is unique in that the HA is cross-linked through a process called Vycross™ that helps provide an excellent lifting capacity. This special cross-linking also helps to avoid degradation, making VOLUMA® last almost twice as long as other fillers. Studies have shown that it can last up to two years. And since it is an HA filler, it can be molded and shaped into the desired contour after injection.

LATISSE® solution is a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker.
LATISSE® is believed to prolong the anagen phase (active growth phase). The exact way it works is unknown.
The onset of effect with LATISSE® solution is gradual. In clinical trial, the majority of LATISSE® users saw significant improvement by two months.
Only LATISSE® has been approved by the FDA as a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis used to grow eyelashes.

Submental fullness, sometimes referred to as double chin, is a common yet undertreated facial aesthetic condition. It can impact a broad range of adult men and women, and can be influenced by several factors such as aging, genetics and weight gain, and is often resistant to diet and exercise alone.
Bothered by it? You are not alone!
67% of people said they were bothered by double chin, according to a 2016 survey conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
KYBELLA® (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved, nonsurgical treatment that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness. KYBELLA® is a nonsurgical, 15-20-minute, in-office treatment session. Each treatment is customized to help you achieve your treatment goals. It destroys fat cells when injected into the fat beneath your chin. Once the aesthetic goal is achieved, retreatment is not expected.
KYBELLA® is an injectable treatment to reduce the double chin. KYBELLA® contains a naturally occurring ingredient called deoxycholic acid; something your body already produces destroys fat cells. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.
Prior to KYBELLA®, development of more invasive techniques, such as liposuction and surgery, were the go-to treatment options. KYBELLA® is the only noninvasive treatment available today.
