Rejuvenating Treatments

Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy involves the injection of targeted medications into the middle layer of skin (the mesoderm) to treat a range of conditions. As an alternative to liposuction, mesotherapy offers a minimally invasive method of cellulite reduction and body contouring. When targeting cellulite or localized pockets of fat, doctors inject a solution that blocks the alpha receptors of fat cells (those that create fat) while stimulating the beta receptors that break fat down. Through this technique, the body naturally flushes out unwanted fat cells, and precise body contouring is achieved with minimal trauma to the tissues.

Mesotherapy Uses

Mesotherapy provides an effective, elegant solution to the problems of cellulite and stubborn fat deposits. Rather than suctioning out fat cells (a process that causes tissue trauma and can result in an unnatural contour) mesotherapy stimulates the body to shrink fat cells. Learn more about how mesotherapy is able to provide targeted cellulite reduction and removal of troublesome fat deposits.

The Mesotherapy Procedure

Mesotherapy is performed during outpatient sessions of less than an hour each. A typical course of treatment consists of ten sessions, though many patients see results after the first few sessions. Recovery from mesotherapy is so simple that patients can immediately return to their daily routines. Learn more about the mesotherapy procedure, including what to do before mesotherapy treatment, the recovery process, and the results you can expect.

Mesotherapy Risks and Benefits

The benefits and side effects of mesotherapy should be weighed before you decide whether this treatment is best for you. Mesotherapy carries few risks, especially compared to liposuction and other invasive body contouring procedures. Conversely, mesotherapy has several marked benefits. Mesotherapy is able to eliminate cellulite and localized fat deposits with minimal trauma to the tissues, little swelling or bruising, and low risk of other side effects.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical outpatient procedure designed to diminish the appearance of spider veins and smaller, superficial varicose veins. Whether on the legs, the face, or virtually anywhere on the body, unsightly veins can be removed with sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy is minimally invasive, only involving a micro-needle for the injection of a solution, causing unwanted veins to fade or disappear.

Sclerotherapy Candidates

Appropriate candidates for sclerotherapy are those individuals who have spider or varicose veins and the desire to change their appearance. The ideal candidates are non-smokers who are physically healthy and psychologically stable. Since it is not known whether the sclerosing solution affects breast milk, pregnant women should avoid sclerotherapy. Individuals with a blood-borne disease or condition affecting the vascular system should not have sclerotherapy. Laser vein removal or vein removal surgery may be more appropriate depending on the severity of your vein condition and other factors affecting your health.

The Sclerotherapy Procedure

Sclerotherapy entails the injection of a solution introduced directly into the targeted veins. In preparation for treatment, the patient stands while the relevant veins are marked. Using a micro-needle, the sclerosing solution is injected into the vein and causes the vein to harden and fade over time. One injection will treat about an inch of surface skin and a single procedure may involve numerous injections, depending on the size of the area being treated. As there is little to no pain experienced by patients, anesthesia is rarely required. Generally, treatment time is 30 minutes to an hour. Two or more sclerotherapy treatments are usually required to achieve optimal results.

Sclerotherapy Recovery

Following sclerotherapy treatment, compression bandages are often applied to increase pressure and swelling of the veins. Bandages can generally be removed within a day or two, although support hose may be required for up to two weeks. Swelling and bruising are typical postoperative conditions. Moderate exercise is recommended in order to increase blood circulation. If sclerotherapy was done on the leg, elevation of the leg may also be recommended. Although rare, complications of sclerotherapy include blood clotting, skin inflammation, allergic reactions, and changes in skin pigmentation.

Sclerotherapy Results

Sclerotherapy is designed to improve the appearance of unsightly veins. After each sclerotherapy session, the veins will appear lighter. However, because there is typically some minor bruising, results may not be visible for up to two weeks. Sclerotherapy does not prevent new veins from forming at the surface of the skin, so it should not be considered a permanent solution for spider and varicose veins. Most patients are satisfied with the results of sclerotherapy and enjoy the improved appearance of their skin.

Botox

BOTOX® Cosmetic provides a quick and effective remedy for the facial lines and wrinkles that age, stress, worry, and environmental factors can produce, even on a younger person's face. A BOTOX® injection skin treatment smoothes frown lines on the forehead, between the eyes, and at the base of the nose. With BOTOX® Cosmetic, derived from botulinum toxin, "crow's feet" wrinkles at the corners of the eyes fade or disappear for a more youthful and vital facial appearance.

What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injectable agent used to temporarily diminish or eliminate lines and wrinkles on the face by relaxing underlying facial muscles. It is derived from botulinum toxin type A, a bacterium-produced neuromuscular toxin that can be deadly in a pure state. BOTOX® Cosmetic contains a highly diluted form of the toxin and has been proven safe. For this reason, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved BOTOX® botulinum toxin treatment for alleviating eye-muscle disorders and smoothing frown lines. This exceptional treatment is often used in conjunction with facial plastic surgery procedures such as a face lift or eyelid lift to maximize its cosmetic benefit.

BOTOX® Cosmetic Candidates

Ideal BOTOX® Cosmetic candidates skin treatment are those who wish to see an improvement in their facial lines and wrinkles, but either do not wish to commit to a facial surgery, or simply cannot tolerate surgery. There are some minimal side effects that have been noted with BOTOX® treatment, but these usually go away very quickly. Pregnant women are advised to avoid treatment, as the effect on the fetus is not yet known, and patients with certain neurological disorders are not considered good candidates.

Risks and Benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic

The main potential benefit of BOTOX® injectable skin treatments is the chance to take years off of your facial appearance by eliminating frown lines, crow's feet, and other minor facial wrinkles. There have been very few potential risks of BOTOX® that have come to light thus far, though pregnant women, patients suffering from neurological disorders, and people taking certain medications and antibiotics are not considered good candidates for the procedure.

Preparing for BOTOX® Treatment

There is little involved in preparing for a BOTOX® treatment, other than being upfront and honest with your physician when you initially discuss the treatment. Sometimes referred to as a "lunchtime procedure" because of the short amount of time needed for the injections, BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments require very little preparation or recovery time.

What to Expect During BOTOX® Treatment

After your physician discusses with you which of your facial muscles will need injection, your BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment will consist of your physician injecting very small amounts into the areas to be treated. BOTOX® injectable skin treatments are very quick, and are often referred to as a "lunchtime" procedure as the entire treatment takes approximately an hour to complete.

Recovery and Results

Recovery following BOTOX® treatment is usually very brief, and you will be able to resume most normal activities immediately. It is recommended that you do not lie down for several hours after the procedure, and that you refrain from massaging the treated area or participating in particularly strenuous activities for 24 hours. The BOTOX® Cosmetic results usually last between three to six months, though results will vary based on the patient and the area injected.

In fact, they are the fastest growing nonsurgical aesthetic procedure in the United States according to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. But all dermal fillers are not the same!

    Choosing JUVÉDERM injectable gel makes a difference:

  • JUVÉDERM is the ONLY hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA approved to last up to 1 year. Our unique manufacturing process provides a high concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid for long-lasting results. It also creates a smooth consistency gel that flows easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel so everyone will notice (but no one will know)! Only JUVÉDERM is so smooth other hyaluronic acid fillers currently on the market are made of granular consistency gels.
  • A "next-generation" filler: JUVÉDERM is a "next-generation" non-animal dermal filler that is made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that plays a vital role in hydrating your skin and replenishing its natural volume. No allergy skin tests are needed prior to receiving treatment.
  • Proven safety and effectiveness: JUVÉDERM injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler proven safe and effective in persons of color.
  • Quick and easy procedure: JUVÉDERM injectable gel is a nonsurgical physician-administered treatment that requires no allergy skin test and minimal recovery or downtime.
  • Personalized treatment: JUVÉDERM injectable gel is available in two formulations: JUVÉDERM Ultra for versatility in contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles and folds, Both formulas come in XC (with lidocaine) for comfort.
  • Restylane

    Restylane replaces lost volume and restores youthful contours to smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds), and your lips.

    Restylane filler injections are composed of a clear hyaluronic acid-based gel (which occurs naturally in the body), and not only fills in lines and wrinkles in the face, but also adds moisture and lubrication to the skin, making it feel younger and more comfortable. You'll still look like yourself - just rejuvenated.

    Restylane requires only a few injections and no incisions or removal of tissue, so the risk of complications is quite low. That in turn means that almost anyone who would like to reduce the prominence of their facial lines and wrinkles can be a candidate for Restylane treatments. Those allergic to avian-based hyaluronic acid treatments can safely use Restylane®, since it is derived from bacterial origins. Those with a history of allergy to bacterial protein, though, should not use the product.

    Restylane treatment is attractive in part because it is so fast and easy. The patient receives the injections in the doctor's office and generally does not require any anesthesia (one exception: Restylane lip filler treatment is usually accompanied by a local anesthetic). The newest form of Restylane, call Restylane L, has lidocane that may eliminate any need for a local anesthetic. The injections are applied over the course of 10 minutes to 1 hour, depending on how large the area to be treated is. After your treatment with Restylane or Perlane, you may have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness. This will normally last less than seven days. However, most patients can and do return to their normal activities after the treatment.

    Perlane

    Perlane® is an injectable cosmetic dermal filler that has been used to soften wrinkles and facial folds of patients across the world. It is also a popular filler for lip augmentation, facial depressions, and facial scarring.

    What is Perlane®?

    Perlane® is made from non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA) gel. This means that Perlane® contains no animal products. Since hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the skin and other tissue, there is no need for a skin test when using Perlane® filler.

    The hyaluronic acid in Perlane® supplements the body's natural supply, which becomes depleted with age. Perlane® is biodegradable so its effects are not permanent. The results of a Perlane® filler treatment tend to last six months to a year. This is much longer than the typical results of collagen injections, which may only last three to six months.

    Unlike BOTOX® Cosmetic, Perlane® does not make you numb. Perlane® can be used in conjunction with BOTOX® Cosmetic, which neutralizes the muscles that create wrinkles, but Perlane® simply reduces the visibility of wrinkles and folds.

    What Areas of the Face Can Be Treated with Perlane®?

    The hyaluronic acid in Perlane® can be used to improve the contour of facial skin and to reduce wrinkles, folds, scars, and other facial skin depressions.

    Common uses for Perlane® filler include:

    * Wrinkle correction

    * Diminishing worry lines, smile lines, crow's feet, marionette lines at corners of the mouth, and smoker's lines

    * Lip enhancement

    * Reducing the severity of nasolabial folds

    * Chin augmentation

    * Filling cheek depressions

    * Redefining lip border

    * Softening acne scars

    Other, less common, uses for Perlane® filler include:

    * Filling hollows under the eyes

    * Creating a temporary eyebrow lift

    * Correcting facial depressions caused by fat loss

    * Softening the appearance of jowls

    Restylane® vs. Perlane® Filler

    Perlane® is primarily the same product as Restylane®, but Perlane® filler contains a larger concentration of hyaluronic acid. Because of this higher concentration of hyaluronic acid, Perlane® is usually used for larger folds, while Restylane® is better suited for smaller wrinkles or to maintain the results of a previous Perlane® injection.

    Because of the differing levels of hyaluronic acid, Restylane® is less expensive than Perlane® filler.

    Dysport

    Prescription Dysport is an injection used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) Dysport stops the signal from the nerve to the muscles, ultimately resulting in a reduction of muscle activity and temporarily preventing contraction of the muscles that cause frown lines and wrinkles. The untreated facial muscles still contract normally, allowing you to freely show facial expressions, such as smiling, in untreated areas.

    Treatment requires 1 injection into each of 5 points between and above the eyebrows. Although office visit times may vary, the procedure generally takes about 10 to 20 minutes. Etcetera%u2019s healthcare professional will determine the exact placement of each injection to get results that are right for you. There is little to no downtime, and you can go about your day as usual.

    Dysports most common side effects are nose and throat irritation, headache, injection site pain, injection site skin reaction, upper respiratory tract infection, eyelid swelling, eyelid drooping, sinus inflammation, and nausea.

    To maintain your improvements, you should discuss a treatment schedule with our healthcare professional. As with any botulinum toxin product, you should wait at least 90 days between treatments.
