PIGMENTED LESIONS

There are two types of pigmented lesions. Solar Lentigines more commonly known as sunspots, age spots or liver spots and Actinic Bronzing overall browning of the skin.

VASCULAR LESIONS

There are two types of Vascular Lesions: Telangiectasia, tiny capillaries that appear near the surface of the face. They may be red, blue or purple in color. They are also known as Spider Veins. Rosacea is an inflammation and swelling of the face.

Pulsed Light: How does it work?

The Photorejuvenation Process is performed by Palomar Pulsed Light Systems. Pulsed Light systems are similar to lasers but with a larger beam for wider coverage and faster, more comfortable treatments. During Photorejuvenation treatments, pulses of filtered light are directed onto the skin and absorbed by the melanin for pigmented lesions and by the blood for vascular lesions.

PIGMENTED LESION TREATMENTS

The Photorejuvation light pulse is directly absorbed by the pigment in the lesion. The light heats the pigment and breaks it up. The lesion darkens and crusts after treatment and is naturally shed from the skin after approximately ten days.

VASCULAR LESION TREATMENTS

Photorejuvenation light pulses heat the small capillaries that cause telangiectasia, Rosacea and other vascular lesions. The heat shrinks these capillaries, which may redden or become gray after treatment. They then fade from view after approximately ten days.

Will Photorejuvenation Treatments Hurt?

Photorejuvenation uses a unique long pulse width that delivers energy to the skin over a relatively long period of time without overheating the epidermis. This makes the pulses safer and more comfortable. You may experience a feeling similar to that of a rubber band being snapped on the skin, but most people do not report this sensation as painful.

Are There Any Adverse Reactions to Treatment?

You may experience temporary redness and a mild "sunburn"-like effect that may last a few hours to a few days.

Please explain the hair growth cycles.

Anagen Phase

Anagen is the active phase of hair growth and generally lasts for several months. This is the best phase for the Pulsed Light Systems to disable new hair as it grows.

Catagen Phase

During this brief phase, the hair bulb regresses and begins to shrink.

Telogen Phase

At the end of this resting phase, which typically lasts a few months, hair is released from the shriveled follicles and the anagen phase begins again.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatments varies depending on the person, the body part being treated, and how much of the hair is in the active phase of growth. Your treatment provider will be able to give you a better assessment after consultation.

The LuxIR is a non-coherent infrared light source that produces light pulses in a range that allows deep penetration of light into the dermis, where a controlled area of elevated temperature is created. This infrared deep heating technology has been shown to trigger a biological response that leads to collagen remodeling in the deep dermis. Remodeled collagen can smooth out fine wrinkles and tighten sagging skin. Deep heating with the infrared light can also stimulate increased collagen production to create visible long-term results.

What makes the LuxIR different from other deep heating methods like Thermage or Titan?

Rather than using one large beam to deliver infrared light into the skin, the LuxIR uses "Fractional" approach: delivering an array of small beams. The infrared light is delivered using a large spot size, masked to create a regular array of precise beams that penetrate the skin deep into the dermis. This method creates a lattice of treated areas surrounded by largely untreated areas. This is a much safer method of treatment because the treated areas do not cause bulk damage of the surrounding tissue, and the untreated surrounding tissue provides a quicker remodeling process.

Is it painful?

The biggest advantage of the LuxIR is the most sophisticated form of epidermal cooling, that is the hallmark of the StarLux. There is a 3-Stage Contact Cooling System that cools the skin before, during, and after each pulse. The LuxIR therefore offers superior skin protection and comfort. Most patients find the procedure very tolerable and do not require any topical or pain medication.

Are these treatment safe?

The LuxIR Fractional method is much safer and more comfortable than the bulk heating approach of many other systems because it leaves so much of the skin unaffected by the light pulses.

What should I expect after the treatment?

You may experience lingering warmth, tightness, or redness in the treated area, which fades within a few hours of treatment. Because so much of the skin is unaffected by the light pulses, there is a quick healing process.

What about downtime?

Generally, you can receive a treatment and go back to work or to other activities without any recovery time.

What areas can be treated and how many treatments are needed?

Skin tightening can be done on most areas of loose skin. The most common areas are the face, throat, arms and stomach. A series of treatments at 4-6 week intervals may be required to achieve the desired result of smoother, tighter skin.

The Lux1064 offers excellent clearance of spider veins on the legs, face, and other body areas where spider vein appear.

How does Laser vein treatment work?

Lasers deliver concentrated light in a specific wavelength of the spectrum. Each wavelength is absorbed by a different target, such as pigment, blood, or water. The Palomar Lux1064 Nd: Yag Handpiece delivers light pulses in the 1064 nm wavelength, which is ideal for targeting leg veins.

The light pulses heat the blood within the leg vein. The heat of the blood affects the vessel lining, which causes the vessel to constrict and eventually fade from view. The Lux1064 can also be used on facial veins.

What are Laser vein treatments like?

Your treatment provider will move the Lux1064 handpiece over your skin, following the length of the vein, pulsing it all the while. Each pulse will send a beam of light through your skin. A flashing light, an audible tone, and a mild sensation on the skin will tell you when the handpiece is being pulsed.

Are these treatments safe? Are they painful?

In addition, a chilled fluid supply runs through the Lux1064 handpiece, down to its tip. Since the handpiece tip is in contact with the skin during treatment, your skin is continually cooled, so that you feel little heat from the laser pulses.

What should I expect after treatment?

Immediately after treatment you will see any of these three possible outcomes:

The surrounding skin may turn pink and be slightly swollen for up to 24 hours.

Often more than one treatment is necessary to achieve full clearance of leg veins.
